Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone's northeast expansion plan recently got the green light, with approval reportedly coming from the Southwest Regional Administration of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The economic zone -- located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- has a planned total area of 148 square kilometers -- with Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport as the core.

With the rapid increases in investment and construction of projects in the economic zone, the contradiction between the airport's building height limits and the development of the economic zone had reportedly become increasingly pronounced.

Under the current aviation building height limit regulations implemented by the airport, terrain covering about 22 sq km in the northeast of the economic zone was affected by the limit, which reduced the amount of the available land in this quadrant.

The new land release scheme divides the available land into 24 areas. Through analysis of the obstructions of the airport, the height of proposed buildings in each zone can now be increased, releasing about 18 sq km of usable space.
