Adhering to the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone has viewed green industries as the key to advancing ecological civilization, a major driving force for the sustainable development of the regional economy and society.

The economic zone is home to industries such as aviation, modern services, high-end manufacturing, logistics, leisure and entertainment. In accordance with requirements related to pollutant discharge control, environmental risk prevention and control and resource development efficiency, the economic zone prioritizes the environmental protection of the Wangjia village drinking water source and has issued the Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Pilot Work Plan for Environmental Impact Assessment of Checklist-based Management of Economic Zone Planning.

Under the plan, the area provides services in advance for green projects and speeds up the approval of projects that conform to the industrial planning and layout of the zone.

Accelerating green economy

The economic zone has strived to carry out in-depth environmental protection, integrate ecology and industrialization, and implement a comprehensive water environment improvement project.

Through the public-private partnerships (PPP) cooperation model, the zone has worked with enterprises to implement infrastructure construction projects related to environmental protection.

Two sewage treatment plants and a 63-kilometer supporting sewage pipe network have already been completed and put into operation. The ecological landscape of four rivers in the region has achieved ecological governance and become a strong example for green development in the zone.

Building a strong ecological barrier

In terms of air pollution prevention and control, the economic zone focuses on the investigation and rectification of construction sites and enterprises producing volatile organic pollutants. It has conducted 1,315 river patrols at the district, township and village levels and fixed 35 problems.

The zone has also intensified efforts to build a "waste-free area", conducting inspections on 72 hazardous waste enterprises, realizing closed-loop management of hazardous waste disposal, helping five radiation control units 15 times and strictly supervising the standardized operation process of the radiation equipment industry.

Last year, the economic zone expanded the coverage of water control work in Dadi village and built five new sets of integrated sewage treatment facilities covering seven villager groups. The total length of the sewage pipe network reached 23.75 kilometers, with a total investment of 13.6 million yuan ($1.99 million). The coverage rate of sewage treatment facilities currently stands at 78.2 percent.

Upgrading green industries

Last year, the economic zone improved the quality of the ecological environment in Longli county by helping companies to improve their environmental protection management and realize the green transformation of industries in the area.

By the end of last year, the economic zone had solved environmental protection issues for 83 industrial enterprises in Longli and collected data under the "one enterprise, one file" system for 10 enterprises above a designated size – those with annual output value of 20 million yuan or more.

The latest data from the zone's ecological environment bureau and the economic development bureau show that last year, three industrial enterprises above designated size in the advanced equipment manufacturing sector reported a total industrial output value of 402 million yuan, while six green food enterprises above designated size recorded a total industrial output value of 8.48 billion yuan.
